Description
There is a lot to talk about with this dress.
Captain Robbo has, in her collection of curious things, a navigational map of Port Phillip Bay from 1973, now more than 50 years old. To celebrate the map, we reproduced it at nearly 2 metres wide and transformed each one into a complete dress pattern with absolutely no fabric offcuts.
Every dress contains an entirely unique section of the map. Nothing is repeated. Potentially, it could still assist with navigating your way out towards Bass Strait, should the need arise.
The original map remained in use well into the 1990s, a detail noted in handwriting on the collar. Signs of its working life remain throughout the print, including crossed-out rifle ranges in Altona, navigational markings, and handwritten notes collected over decades of use on the bay.
Made from an ultra lightweight cotton voile, it is soft, airy, and made for dancing, travelling, and hot summer evenings.
100% made in Melbourne.
