Description
Possibly the greatest sporting event Northcote has ever known.
From 2005 to 2013, Eastment Street became the site of an unofficial annual Billy Cart Derby, held on Melbourne Cup Day by locals looking for a more entertaining race. Hay bales lined the tiny backstreet as homemade carts hurtled downhill, surrounded by dress-ups, music, cheering children and adults behaving ridiculously.
I wanted to celebrate this strange and wonderful piece of Northcote history in the same handmade spirit as the event itself. The hand-drawn design is screen printed in deep indigo onto soft blue cotton jersey, right here in our Northcote studio.
Made locally from high-quality Australian-made cotton jersey.
For those who remember the Eastment Street Derby, and everyone who now wishes they had been there.
