Velvet Pea Coat

Our Velvet Pea Coat is made from 100% cotton velvet, naturally dyed in India using harad and iron to create its beautifully deep, nuanced black.

Harad, also known as haritaki or myrobalan, is the fruit of the Terminalia chebula tree and has a long history of use in both Ayurvedic medicine and natural dyeing in India. Rich in tannins, when combined with iron it produces beautifully deep, complex dark tones.

The classic double-breasted shape has a relaxed, slightly boxy silhouette, with a wide collar, covered buttons and bracelet-length sleeves. The quilted velvet gives the jacket warmth and structure without the heaviness of a traditional winter coat, making it an easy layer through the cooler months and between seasons.

There is something particularly beautiful about naturally dyed black. Rather than feeling completely flat and uniform, the colour has depth and subtle variation that complements the soft surface of the cotton velvet.

Made in small quantities with our makers in Jaipur, India.

Fit & sizing:
Available in M, L and XL. Our model is approximately an Australian size 10 and wears the Medium comfortably. The relaxed, boxy cut allows some flexibility through the body, with the XL fitting approximately up to an Australian size 16.Outer: 100% cotton velvet.
Lining: 100% cotton.
Naturally dyed with harad and iron.

Used for leggings, underwear, merino layers, knitwear, t-shirts and stretch or jersey garments.

Used for woven garments. The ones that have less or no stretch in the fabric.
